Dear Students,

I am so proud of you! Each one of you has grown so much since the first day of 3rd grade.I remember you all walking in, with bags full of supplies, wondering when recess was and begging me not to make you read a book without pictures or write more than a few sentences. You had not a clue of the challenges that lie ahead. And yet, as each challenge was presented, you stepped up to the plate and hit a home run! I hardly recognize these soon-to-be 4th graders in my class!

I am so proud of all the books we have read together.Stone Fox. The Chocolate Touch. Fudge-a-Mania.Stuart Little. You have to admit, these were some stupendous stories! To think that, in the beginning of the year, most of you PRETENDED to read during silent reading time. Now I can't pry books out of some of your hands!

Better yet, you have learned how to find the information you need in a story. You can pick up an idiom or an inference a mile away!As hard as finding the theme (lesson) of a story is, many of you are able to pinpoint the theme within minutes!Every one of you look back in the story to find the answer because you know it is either "Right There", or there is a hint or clue to help you.You are all literature detectives and you don't let a single clue pass you by.Way to go!

Remember when you started 3rd grade and you groaned when I asked you to write? You didn't know how to begin, how to stay on topic, or how to organize your thoughts?I am so proud of your latest expository essay!Five paragraphs! Each essay contains an introductory and a concluding paragraph.Three supporting paragraphs each with its own topic and examples of that topic. It took a lot of hard work for you to learn how to do that. You are going to blow your 4th grade teacher away with your knowledge!

Remember when Saxon math was too easy for you so I chose to use a different math series that made the math lessons get so much harder? Many of you got upset when the math got challenging. It took a lot of convincing, but now you guys are experts! You can solve 100 multiplication problems (0's-12's) in under 5 minutes! You didn't just learn the 3rd grade standards with the new math series, you have begun to dive into 4th grade math! This means that you are already ahead for next year.

Morning Math was no match for you. When the going got tough, the tough got going!I am so proud of how most of you used that upset to find out what you didn't know and then learned it!The first week was hard, but, by week 8, it was "easy peasy lemon squeezy".You have done an excellent job!

Best of all, each and every one of you have become problem solvers. You have learned that, when there is a problem, you can find a solution.Whether it be a problem with a friend, a game, a choice made, or academics, there is always a solution.Problem solvers change the world.I can't wait to see how each and every one of you will change the world!

Third grade is coming to a close.FCAT is near.It will be a breeze for brainiacs like yourselves. You know everything you need to know. Now you get to sit back and prove how smart you are.Blow them out of the water!Show the entire state of Florida that Odyssey Charter School has the smartest 3rd graders in the state!

Thank you for allowing me to teach you this year.It truly has been my pleasure.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Rasch

FCAT IS APRIL 11-20

Homework Folders

Homework Contracts will go home every Friday in the Homework Folder along with any work from the week.  Homework Contracts are to be kept in the middle clear plastic sleeve all week to remind you and your child of the homework that is due each week.
Stapled tests sent home on Friday will now have a GOAL SHEET stapled to the front.  This is a list of the independent activities completed throughout the week along with a behavior report for the week.  Please review  behavior, independent work, and test scores with your child.  Once you have done this, please sign the bottom of the GOAL SHEET and return the packet to school.  Please note that children do receive a 5 minutes out of recess consequence if these papers are not returned by Wednesday.  During this time they write a reminder note to help them remember to bring signed papers back to school.

Missing Work
Third grade is a big year.  This is the year students begin to receive grades for their work.  Missing assignments can really hurt their grade.  My policy is to send home a Missing Assignment Report for each assignment not turned in to the basket on time.  On the report there is a date that the assignment was due, the name of the assignment, and a place for the student to testify why he/she did not turn in his/her work.  I will also attach the assignment if it is available.  This must be signed by a parent and returned with the assignment completed.  All students with Missing Assignment Reports are required to have silent lunch until it is returned.
